“AHH!” Macy slipped and fell on the ice, pulling Nick down with her! He landed flat on top of her, and they laughed for a while, then all of a sudden, he put his hand on her face and kissed her. As he pulled away she looked into his eyes and he knew she wanted more.
“Lets go get a room.” Nick  demanded.

They slammed the door and he shoved her onto the cheap motel room bed. They both struggled to get each others clothes off as fast as possible, their heavy breathing and squealing could most likely be heard throughout the whole motel.
RING RING! Macys phone urgently screamed, she rolled Nick off of her and grabbed her phone,
“Hello?!?” she loudly exclaimed in a panicky voice.
“Macy? damn girl i thought you were ice skating!” She said in a conniving tone.
“Ok somebody is outside our room, he has a gun and is just sitting outside, I locked Egypt into the bathroom, and locked all the doors and windows, and shut all curtains, but you need to get here now! And take the backway, i don’t want him to see you!” Alli loudly whispered into the phone.
“I’m on my way!” Macy yelled as she slammed the phone and searched for her clothes.
“Wait, what? Go where? Was I that bad?” Nick asked, he was so confused,
“I’ll explain on the way! but I need you to drive me to the Motel 6 on C street where Alli and Egypt are now!” Macy pressingly exclaimed to Nick.

Alli was severely entertained, she just sat there with her elbow on the table and her hand supporting her face watching them go back and forth at each other for the rest of breakfast, she didn’t know if they would ever get out of there!
After close to two hours they finally paid the bill, and Nick decided to take a risk.
“Listen, are you busy for the rest of the day, because I would love it if i could take you out for the day, we can go ice skating, and get lunch later, and we can do whatever you want!” He finally finished, it was obvious he was nervous to ask that, Macy turned to Alli for approval.
“I can get a motel room or something and keep Egypt occupied and safe for the day alright? You go have a good time, you need it!” Alli whispered in Macys’ ear, Alli didn’t fully believe that either of the girls lives were in danger, she just came along for an adventure.
“ I would love to,” Macy told Nick.
“AWESOME! I mean, that’s great, let me just go call my boss Mr. Hosking.”
Ring ring!

“Hello?” Mr. Hosking answered.
“Hello Mr. Hosking, this is Nick, I was calling to ask if I could have the rest of the day off?” Nick asked
“Well but of course darling!” Mr. Hosking answered, he was a very feminine man, he grew up without his mom and four sisters, he was forced to wear makeup many more times than any boy should ever experience. After being teased about it at school, and being called gay all the time, he just accepted it and started acting like what everybody assumed he was, gay.
After getting the go-ahead, Nick took Macy to the ice rink. After they squeezed into the uncomfortable shoes they got on the ice.
“So what are you doing out on Christmas?” Nick asked.
“Oh you know, just... hangin...” She sounded so unconvincing, but Nick could tell it was personal and that she didn’t want to tell him so he backed off.

CHAPTER 7

The sun crept through the blinds, placing shadows on Macys’ face.
“GOOOOOD MORNING! You know, I was thinking! You guys this could be kind of fun! You know, how many people get to have an adventure like this? Being on the run for their life? Not many people! But we can! Just the three of us! I packed my bags and got my money and some food! We can do this! We leave in an hour!” Alli had gone completely crazy, Macy didn’t want to be on the run, she just didn’t really have a choice, but if it meant she would have Alli with her, she would play along and pretend it would be fun, so she decided that she would play the role and act like Alli’s idea was a good one!
“Yeah Alli! Just the three of us! On the run! This is going to be so amazing! Scary, but awesome! I’ve got money too, we will beat this guy! He can’t have my daughters’ locket! Who does he think he is to threaten me?” Macy realized that Alli’s uppity attitude helped a lot, it made her feel better about going through with this instead of surrendering.
“I mean, how many librarians get to have an adventure like this? One day I’ll get to tell this story to all my friends, and my grandchildren, and God willing, my husband!” Now Macy was out of her mind, and she knew it, but she liked it! She loved this new feeling of living on the wild side, it was so much better than reading books in the library all day!
So the girls grabbed their bags and hopped into Alli’s little red car.
“Where to ladies?” Alli asked Macy and Egypt.
“I was personally thinking that some breakfast would be amazing right now! maybe we should stop at the next diner?” Macy suggested.
“Yeah girl! There’s one a few miles from here! I hear it’s really great!” They soon pulled up to a run down little restaurant, where a lit up sign in red letters read Joe’s Diner.
“Hm, sounds decent enough!” Macy commented. So they all got out of the car and embarked on the journey across the rugged parking lot. Anyone could take one look at it and know that it hasn’t been re graveled in more than ten years, there were potholes everywhere, it was like someone just threw grenades everywhere and blew up the whole parking lot!

After driving through the snow about fifteen minutes they came upon Alli’s house, just as Macy realized that she had forgotten to call Alli to warn her they were coming! It would just have to be unexpected. She gently handed the taxi boy some money and a large tip.
“Just a second little miss!” He yelled out the passenger window to Egypt,
“Have a candy cane sweetheart! And merry Christmas, have a wonderful night!” He put the striped candy into the palm of Egypts hand and she thanked him then ran to the door where Alli was standing, looking a little confused.
“Thank you ma’am for being the one nice customer i’ve had tonight, you brought me some Christmas cheer.” He mentioned as he handed her a candy cane too.
“You didn’t think I only give them out to kids did you?” He asked in a sarcastic voice as he winked and handed her the candy, wrapped around it was a piece of paper with his phone number. She glanced up and thanked him attempting to hide the fact that she was blushing. She softly closed the door and gave a wave and a smile as he drove off. Then she turned around to see Alli standing in the doorway, she could tell right away that she was concerned.

“You snuck out of the fire escape and told her you were taking an adventure? Then made the poor thing walk in the cold for blocks? And now I watch you flirt with a taxi driver? What is going on Macy?” Alli was so confused and worried, but mostly anxious to get an answer. Macy was scared to answer,
“I don’t know, someone called my house and threatened me, then when I ignored it, a bullet came crashing through my window barely missing Egypts head... Then the phone rang again and it was the same frightening voice, telling me that if I didn’t give him what he wanted, he would kill her!” She instantly fell to the ground weeping,
“I’m so scared Alli! What do I do?!?” She asked as she wiped the tears from her eyes.
“Why didn’t you call me? And what the hell does he want? Is it money? Why is he after a little girl? I need more details Macy!”
Alli was becoming very upset, she was very protective of Macy and never let anyone bully her!
“He.. *sniff* He said he wanted her locket, the one she had just opened moments before the call.” Macy explained as she found her way back to her feet.
“Well give him the damn locket! Buy her a new one and you can get out of this situation!” Alli yelled in an upset voice.
“I can’t! It’s the only thing left from her parents! I can’t even get it open and I don’t know what’s in it! You should have seen her face light up when she opened it, it’s the only piece she has left of them! How could I take that from her!” Macy was crying again, this was too much drama for her.

“Oh you know what, never mind, we are just going to have a nice walk tonight,” Macy said in a very unconvincing tone trying to come up with an excuse not to drive in his cab. She was not about to put her daughters life in danger like that.
“Here sweetheart you go ahead and get out first,” Macy said as Egypt climbed out over her lap, she reached across to grab Egypts suitcase and ducked out of the cab, just as the sick old man reached through the little opening between the seats and pinched Macys but.
“SMACK!” She turned around and thrust her hand across his face!
“Keep your damn hands off me you sick bastard!”She screamed.
“That’ll teach him to touch me!” Macy mumbled to herself. The man just sat there on his drunk ass for a moment staring at her, completely speechless that she actually slapped him!
“Now get the hell out of here!” She screamed at him as she slammed the back door. He slammed on the gas and sped off before he gave her the chance to get her hands around his throat. So the girls just kept walking until another taxi came along.
“Lets try this again,” Macy thought to herself as a new taxi pulled up.
“Hello ladies, where to on this beautiful Christmas Eve?” An attractive young man with brunette hair and freckles on his nose politely asked. He stepped out of the cab and ran around to the side the girls stood and opened the door for them. Macy was astonished! It isn’t often that you come across a man like this, or even remotely close! The men in the little town were mostly just rude stuck up men in suits, or drunks like the old taxi driver.
“Why thank you very much, we are going to 369 SE 28th St. please!” Macy asked in a sophisticated manner. The young man was so sweet and handsome that she forgot the fact that she was on the run from a killer! Then it clicked with her and she snapped back to reality in an instant.
“Now quickly! I sincerely apologize but we are in a HUGE hurry!” She exclaimed as she helped Egypt into the yellow car.
“Yes ma’am I am so sorry, didn’t mean to keep you waiting, I just don’t find myself in the presence of a beautiful woman like you often. What are you doing out in the cold on this Christmas Eve anyways? No wait! i’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to intrude, that is none of my business!” He quickly backed off and started the car.
“Off to 28th street we go!” He loudly proclaimed in an adventurous voice, drawing a little giggle out of Egypt.

CHAPTER 6

“No sweetheart, don’t go out the front door!” She said nervously as she closed all the curtains.
“We are going to take an adventure and go out the back way!”
“The fire escape?” Egypt asked sounding very confused.
“Yeah! It will be fun!” Macy tried to convince her.
“Well ok? But you have a strange idea of fun mommy.”
They climbed down the fire escape, knowing that somebody was stationed somewhere outside her home waiting for her scared Macy so much. They made it to the end of the ladder and hopped into the snow.
“Come on lets go lets go!”
“Why are we walking? Alli lives far!” Egypt complained.
“Remember we are taking an adventure, we will run for awhile and then we will catch a cab! Here let me carry your bag!” She grabbed Egypts bag and her hand and just kept running. She couldn’t tell if Egypt was really confused or if she could tell something was wrong.
“Taxi! Taxi!” Macy hollard after they had ran twelve blocks. The taxi pulled over and the girls hopped into the back seat, an old man looked back, his cold blue eyes stared at them while they got comfortable. His arm was rested on the top of the front seat, and his big baggy black winter coat almost hid his oversized beer belly.
“The names Scott, where’ll it be tonight hot stuff?” He asked in a perverted tone while he looked Macy up and down, trying to find away to see past her scarf and down her shirt. He left the divider window open instead of giving any privacy of a thin plastic window.
“We’ll be going to...” Macy stopped talking, she glanced at the six empty beer bottles in the front passenger seat, quickly realizing he was hammered.

Three weeks passed, it was Christmas Eve, the stockings were hung above the fireplace, the cookies and milk were out for Santa, and the presents were nestled under the tree. Macy and Egypt sat next to the window with their hot cocoa and candy canes watching the snowfall from the dark night sky. The streets were decked in colorful lights and evergreen firs found a home in every families window, and every store. White Christmas played in the background as the girls just sat in silence with glowing smiles on their faces.
“Are you ready to open your Christmas Eve present sweetheart?” Macy asked her.
“Yes!” This would be the first present Macy would give her daughter, and she would never forget it. She handed her a little box clothed in red sparkly wrapping paper, with a little white glitter bow garnishing the top. Egypt just stared at it for a moment, in complete excitement, then she carefully unwrapped it, Macy stuck the bow to Egypts little freckled forehead and they giggled. As she unwrapped the paper, a jewelry box was revealed, Egypt took a deep breath, and she opened it.
“It’s a locket, it was the only thing left from your parents, Lia gave it to me, she had saved it for you, it was found in your old home after it had been wrecked. It is locked and I can’t get it open, so i’m not sure if there is a picture inside, but I thought it was important that you have it. She put it around Egypts neck and gave her a big hug.
“RING RING!” The phone screamed across the house.
“Hello?” Macy said with a hesitance in her voice, it was nine o’clock on Christmas Eve, who could possible be calling?
“Give me the locket or I take the girl with it,” a creepy voice said on the other line.

“Who is this?!?” Macy was scared.
“Don’t ask questions, just put it in a bag in your mailbox and i’ll come get it.”
“No! that is my daughters and you can’t have it or her!”
“I warned you!” The stranger yelled and ended the call.
“Stupid people these days, he isn’t really going to do anything” She mumbled to herself.
“CRASH! AHHHH!!!” Egypt screamed as a bullet wizzed past her head through the window and into the kitchen! Macy ran over and pulled Egypt to the floor to take cover!

“Good morning Macy! Ready to sign these papers and take your daughter home for the first time?!?” She asked in complete and utter excitement!
“More than anything! I am so excited Lia! I am shaking!” She reached out and embraced Lia in an enthusiastic hug. They sat down and signed papers as fast as possible, they were both so thankful for this all coming together, it was perfect timing, now Egypt would get to have Christmas with her own family!
“We are done signing papers Macy... congratulations, i’ll go get her darling,” Lia said in a very comforting voice, relief blanketed Macy and Lia, they were both so happy, and so ready for this to finally happen.
Out of the bedroom came Egypt, with tears welling up in her eyes, she dropped her little suitcase with her doll and few personal items in it, and she ran and jumped into Macy’s arms. She embraced her so tightly, and just squeezed her, holding back tears was now impossible, unrealistic, she just couldn’t do it. Tears were flowing out of everybody’s eyes, Macy finally had a little girl, everything was ok, life was perfect.
“Thank you so much Lia, for helping me with this, and being so supportive and helpful, you are so amazing, and I will take good care of her, and I will love her so much, I promise.” Macy humbly expressed her gratitude to Lia one more time.
“Are you ready to go sweetheart?” She asked Egypt.
“I’ve been ready for years mommy!” Macy wanted to cry again, she was a mommy, it felt so amazing to be called that, and to have someone that she could love unconditionally.
They left the shelter and gave one last wave out the window to Lia as they drove away, it was the most amazing feeling Macy had ever experienced, to have a daughter of her own.

“I don’t need to look any further, don’t bring me anymore girls, I want Egypt, I love her, she is the one!” Butterflies fluttered in her stomach and she felt like dancing for joy, Macy was overwhelmed, only $1,300 and Egypt was all hers! She had finally found her girl.

CHAPTER 5

Within two weeks Macy had raised the money through lots of kind donations. She was ready to officially sign adoption papers and bring Egypt home!
The morning was finally here! Macy jumped out of bed! Dressed herself in pants and a red t-shirt, poured her coffee and she bolted out the door! Once she was in her car she knew that any red light keeping her from getting there faster had better watch out! And any driver holding up traffic would get the finger! She was so excited, her heart was pounding!
With all the money she had raised she had been able to move up a size in the apartment complex, instead of a one bedroom one bath, she had a two bedroom, two and a half bath! She had it all set up and ready! She had a room ready for Egypt, completed with a leopard bedspread, red curtains, and a little fake crystal chandelier. She had even bought her a whole new wardrobe!
Here she was, pulling into the Life Change campus, she parked her car in one of the furthest parking spots.
“Just breathe Macy, just breathe,” she told herself overwhelmed with complete excitement, she took a deep breath in, and let it out. Now she was calm and collected, she opened her car door, took one more deep breath and approached the entrance.
She entered and there, ready to welcome her was Lia,

“This is Egypt, she is eleven years old, she lost her parents in Katrina, they were all huddled on the roof of her house where her parents had tied her to the chimney to keep her safe from the high winds. When all of a sudden an 80mph gust of wind grabbed both of her parents, pulling them into the rushing water, where they drown. She has been living on the streets until we found her about a week ago. So I will leave you with her for fifteen minutes.” Once Lia finished talking she exited the room, leaving the little girl and Macy alone.
Egypt didn’t take her seat, she just stood there for a few seconds gazing deep into Macys’ eyes, when suddenly, she just ran up and hugged Macy. She squeezed Macy so tight, she just wanted to feel loved so bad after losing her parents a few years prior. So Macy just held her there, holding tears back to hard, she couldn’t even imagine watching your parents be swept away like that. Watching them scream and die, and not being able to do anything, because Egypt was only four at the time.
Macy knew that she wanted an eight year old, but she had quickly fallen in love with Egypt, she was very beautiful, and so broken, and very lovey, which is exactly what Macy needed. After they had talked for a few minutes, Macy just got up and left the room, off to find Lia.

CHAPTER 4

A little over a month passed, it was December 1st, and Christmas was fast approaching. Macy only need $1,300 left till she could officially adopt a little girl. She had been to the shelter many times, but just couldn’t find the right girl, but she was going again today, in hopes that the right girl would be there.
She pulled into the Life Change shelter at 10:30am, and she just sat there for a moment, staring into the distance, just hoping that she would find the girl, what if she never did? And all of this was just for nothing, all of the wonderful people that have donated would have given their money for nothing!
“STOP IT MACY STOP IT! just keep your thoughts positive! YOU WILL FIND THE RIGHT GIRL!” Macy scolded herself. She thrust the car door open and walked into the shelter in determination, with her head held high!
“Well hello again Macy! You are looking rather darling today!” Lia said as usual.
“Are you here to look at our new girls? We have acquired four new little girls, ages 4, 7, 8, and 11, I know you prefer 8, so i hope you like them! Come on back!” Lia told Macy.
“Alright Lia, thank you, I have a very good feeling about today, in all honestly I believe that today is the day! So lets go find me a little girl!”
They entered through a colorful hallway, the walls were layered in coloring pages that the little girls of the shelter had colored over the past 10 years the organization had been open.
“We have never thrown away one drawing ever,” Lia happily informed Macy. They soon entered the girls bedroom, wall to wall were bunkbeds. Just one big room filled with fifty little girls, all broken, all homeless, and all without a family. Why was it so hard for Macy to pick one? They were all so great! All so young and talented, and so cheerful, all they wanted was to be loved.
“I will bring out the four girls you haven’t met into the conference room to you.” Lia motioned to the door into the conference room and Macy entered. It was a little room, with a table in the middle, and two chairs on one side and one on the other.

“Hey Macy, so I was going to wait to do this till the Christmas party but after I saw your facebook status last night I decided right now would be the best time to do it. So, congratulations Macy! You have been promoted to assistant manager! Your salary will double and your Christmas bonus check is much bigger! And I want to give it to your early if you don’t mind!” Macy was stunned, she was not expecting this at all, and she didn’t know how to even start thanking Darcy.
“Um… YES! I’d love the promotion and I’d love my bonus check now! Thank you so so so much Darcy! You’re the best! This is so amazing! I don’t even know what to say!”
“You don’t need to say anything Macy! Here! Just take this check! It’s your bonus! And take this check too! The whole staff pitched in some money to help give you a little push start!” The bonus check was signed for $500, and the check from all of her friends was for $1,200!
“But that’s not all Macy! We put up a donation box for you at the front desk!” Macy looked over at the desk; there was a bright pink sign that had black writing on it that said;
“Donations accepted to help Macy Lively raise money to adopt a little girl whom lost her family in Hurricane Katrina!” Macy was speechless, she was so thankful; she just stood there in aw! Darcy gave her a key to the donation box and told her that she can empty it at the end of every day.
“You better start finding yourself a little girl! I think you will have the money you need very fast!” Darcy told her as she gave her a big hug.

The night finally came to an end, and Macy said her goodbyes and handed her ticket to the valet, she got in her car and headed straight to a McDonalds, all she wanted at the moment was Big Mac and Coke, and that’s exactly what she got. As she sat in a corner booth stuffing her face with fries she pondered on the night she had. And she found herself broken hearted. Right then and there she decided that she is going to put money aside from every paycheck, and she is going to save up for a house, then she would save money to adopt a little girl. Although she knew it would take a very long time to get that kind of money, it was what she had to do.
When she got home she posted a status on her facebook right away, it read;
“I went to a banquet dinner tonight for an adoption organization called Life Change, it broke my heart, I decided that I am going to save money, I will first save for a house, then a girl. So I guess what I’m asking is if anybody knows of any place that I could put in some extra hours to make some extra cash? Thanks guys, just message me or give me a call if you hear of anything!”
That was it, she changed into some pajamas, and she flopped onto her bed, she texted Alli goodnight and turned off the light ready to start another day.
When she clocked into work the next morning her boss Darcy pulled her aside.

Fish, it was fish? That was what they decided to serve? FISH?!? The one meat that Macy hated! It is definitely an acquired taste, and she never happened to acquire it! But after she examined other peoples happy reactions she knew that just like the tea, she was going to have to force herself to eat it and pretend to like it.
“Damn this sucks! How could anybody like this? I just don’t get rich people!” Macy typed in a text to Alli while she was in the bathroom trying to escape the sophistication for a moment, even if it was in a bathroom. Then again, this restroom was just as big as her house! There was a freaking couch in there for goodness sakes! After a few minutes of gathering herself back together she reentered the ballroom, and sat back down at her spot, welcomed back by the fish still lying on her plate. She finally just finished it, quickly, but still politely. She was trying so hard not to gag.
“Ok ladies and gentlemen! We will now start our presentation that you have been waiting for! Please direct your attention to the screens behind me.” Lia pointed back at the screens and made her way off stage. The lights faded, and the projector placed the footage on the big white screen, it was a long depressing video showing what happened in Hurricane Katrina, and introduced some of the girls looking for homes and a family in the video.

Two waiters arrived at the table with a tray of plates, they were all covered in salads, of course, appetizer before meal, Macy really wasn’t used to this. Her Top Ramen and Macaroni and Cheese every night didn’t come with an appetizer, unless it was a bag of Lays. The salad looked like a master piece, it had avocado, banana peppers, tomatoes, bell peppers, and feta cheese crumbled all over it, and to top it off, it was garnished in an expensive balsamic vinaigrette.
“Oh no!” She was freaking out in her head!
“There are two forks! Which one do I take?!? I knew I shouldn’t have come to this! What if I use the wrong one and make a fool of myself!” She was losing it! A sweat was coming on, this was not good, before she picked up the wrong one she secretly examined what Lia did. She picked up the outside one first, and so did everybody else! So she did too, either she was doing it right, or they were all doing it wrong, so she assumed it was definitely the right way! She politely ate her salad, and placed a sugar cube in her bland tea, even though if she was home alone she would have used the whole tray of cubes, she hated tea, but knew she had to pretend to like it, even without more than one cube of sugar.
“How do people live like this everyday? Do they actually like this stuff? Or are they just convinced that it makes them more fancy smancy if they ate certain foods? I bet they go home and eat like pigs, and never even touch tea! It’s like they are all fake, like they are in a daze! Damn what I would do for a Coke right now.” Macy was driving herself insane with her thoughts.

She pulled up to the hotel and a valet kindly helped her out of her car and took her keys and he handed her a ticket, 421 was her car number. She took a deep breath and entered the building, she then made her way to the ballroom. As she walked in she marveled at the beauty of the room, huge elegant chandeliers hung from the ceiling and the red and blue patterned carpets made her feet feel so comfortable and supported. Windows surrounded the whole room looking out over the little town, they were clothed in beautiful long flowing black drapes from ceiling to floor. Although why there was such a magnificent hotel in little Primwood she would never understand, but she was happy it was there, she had never been somewhere so beautiful.
“Macy?” A voice from behind her hesitantly asked.
“Yes? Oh hello! How are you?” It was Lia; she was wearing a black floor length gown with white satin gloves. It was simple and elegant, just stunning.
“I’m wonderful darling! Just wonderful! I wasn’t sure if that was you or not, I’ve never seen you dressed up before! Although we have only met once about a week or so ago at the mall. Well anyways, I am so happy to have you here! Our table is number 1 up front! Oh! And this is my husband George! George this is Macy, the lovely lady I was telling you about with all of the coincidental events that happened leading her here!”
“Hello, it’s very nice to finally meet you, my wife has been very excited to have you here.” George shook her hand, he was a tall man with thick grey hair, that was combed very nicely. He wore a black suit with a deep red tie and white button up shirt, very classy and expected.
“Well come along darling! Come to our table with us! We will all sit down and be ready to be served!” Lia loudly and obnoxiously announced
“Man she was a peppy one, I hope I can put up with it all night.” Macy nervously thought. They made their way to the front of the room to their table. Macy felt out of place

CHAPTER 3

7am, Macy sits up in bed and looks at the calendar, October 28th; it was the day of the banquet. She was strangely excited, but at the same time, butterflies took over her stomach, something just wasn’t sitting right about this. But she had already spent $60 on a dress at Macys and $40 on a pair of Fiona heels at Payless. Her dress was a deep purple satin, which brought out her covert green eyes. It was knee length and A line with a low V neck, it flowed beautifully and had a silver broach on a black waist sash. She paired it with some midnight blue open toed two-inch heels, on the front the fabric was pulled into a divine knot. She couldn’t wait to put it all together with her hair and makeup tonight; Macy didn’t get to dress up often, because the library never had formal events.
Macy picked up the phone and pulled out Mrs. Hensworths’ business card with her cell number on it that she had put in her coat pocket a week prior at the mall. She punched in the numbers and cautiously pressed call.
“Hello, Lia Hensworth speaking,” she quickly answered the phone on the second ring.
“Hi Mrs. Hensworth it’s Macy Lively, I was just calling to let you know that I will be attending the banquet tonight and wanted to make sure I would still be sitting at your table?”
“Oh hello Miss Lively! It’s so great to hear from you! And please call me Lia! Yes we still have your seat saved at our table and are very excited to spend some time with you and get to know you!” She excitedly pronounced.
“Well thank you very much Mrs…. I mean, Lia, I am very excited for tonight and I am very excited to get to know you to, thank you so much, I will see you tonight! Oh, and call me Macy.” She happily responded.
“Alright Macy! Thanks for calling! I will see you tonight darling!” And they both hung up.
“I sure do hope I don’t’ end up talking like Lia by the end of the night… darlingggg psh, who calls people darling?” Macy giggled to herself.

“What was that all about?” Alli questioned after walking in silence for a few minutes.
“It was nothing, well, I don’t know.” Then Macy proceeded to inform Alli on everything that had happened within the last two days.
“Well what do you think about it? Do you want a kid?” Even though Alli was a ditzy blonde, she knew how to straighten up and talk seriously when she needed to, and she was always there for Macy.
“That’s the thing! I just don’t know! I’d love to have a daughter, one that I could wake up to every morning, and make her breakfast, but I just don’t think I’m ready, I always expected to just get married and one day just have one of my own. I never thought I’d be single my whole life with an adopted little girl.” Macy explained to Alli.
“Well life isn’t what we plan for it to be Macy, maybe that isn’t what your purpose in life is, maybe you’re still single so that you can save a little girl who lost her family, and be a loving mother to her, if it’s meant to be, then things will happen to make sure it works out.”

“Thanks Alli, I’ll look into it, I’ll go to the banquet, and we’ll see what happens, and I’ll keep you updated for sure. Now can we stop talking drama and just shop? I need to find a nice dress to wear to the banquet.”

They loved to look at the new booths that moved into the mall every weekend, they always played with the remote helicopters, and got their makeup and hair done, and ate every sample they could get! As they examined the new booths as Macy looked up, to look at the booth in front of her, and she gave a smile to the lady in the stand with a name tag reading “Lia Hensworth.”
“That name sounds familiar,” Macy thought to herself, then she looked at the sign, Life Change, it was the adoption agency! Oh no! She quickly escaped into Forever 21, hoping that Lia didn’t recognize her. Soon she realized that they have never met in person, so she wouldn’t have recognized her anyways.
“Wow, now I feel like a dumb blonde,” she mumbled, not realizing that Alli was standing right next to her, she desperately hoped she hadn’t heard her say that. Although deep down, she could tell by the look on Alli’s face that she did hear, but Alli was too sweet to ever say anything about it, or acknowledge how rude it was that Macy would say something like that.
“I’m sorry Alli, that was so rude and out of line,” Macy quickly apologized.
“Don’t worry about it, I get it every day… I’m used to it.” that only made Macy feel even more horrible, Alli was really hurt, Macy didn’t know what was wrong with her self, she never said rude things, especially on impulse! What was this whole Life Change incident doing to her? She had to deal with it.
              Macy marched directly over to Lia Hensworth and said what she needed to before she chickened out;
“Mrs. Hensworth! My name is Macy Lively, we talked on the phone today about my RSVP, I have never been interested in adopting a child, I’m single, living in a tiny apartment, and have no time for a child! But Life Change keeps popping back up into my life over and over again over the last two days, so I decided I needed to go to the event. But now I’m second guessing my decision, I’m so nervous, I have no reason for going, and I have not been myself since I RSVP’d and I’m going crazy. So please forget this whole thing, I will not be sitting at your table at the banquet, I am not going, and you may withdrawal my RSVP right away thank you.” Macy was out of breath but felt good about her attention demanding speech.
“Miss. Lively, I’m sorry about how you are feeling, but maybe it is for a reason, you do not have to come to the banquet, but I will save your spot just in case you decide to change your mind. And if you realize why this is making you so anxious then just give me a call and I will happily talk to you, or we can meet for coffee, just let me know.” Mrs. Hensworth calmly finished and reached into her pocket, withdrawing a business card,
“Here is my card with my personal phone number on it, call me anytime.” Macy accepted the card, and looked at Mrs. Hensworth for a second then walked away without another word.

CHAPTER 2

As Macy got ready for shopping the next day she stumbled across the letter from Life Change again, and without putting any more thought into it she dialed the number at the bottom of the letter.
“(319)-285-1492” She recited the number as she pressed the square numbers on the wireless phone.
“Hello this is Lia Hensworth CEO of Life Change, how may I help you today?” Macy was secretly hoping nobody would pick up so she could just leave a message, but apparently luck was not on her side today.
“Hello Mrs. Hensworth, my name is Macy Lively, and I was calling because I got an invitation to the Life Change banquet dinner on the twenty eighth, and I would like to RSVP please.”
“Of course! Do you have a specific table you would like to be placed at?” Mrs. Hensworth thoughtfully asked.
“No thank you, I don’t know anybody going, I’m coming alone.” Macy was ashamed to be alone, and hated it, but she needed to go to this and she didn’t know why.
“Alright! Well in that case, why don’t you join my husband, George and I at our table? We’d be happy to have you!” Mrs. Hensworth sweetly offered.
“Oh no! I wouldn’t want to be a burden!” Macy quickly responded.
“You are no burden darling I will put you right there next to me! I can’t wait to meet you and I hope you have a lovely day! Thank you!” Mrs. Hensworth hung up. Puzzled, Macy hung up too. She walked over to the living room, not sure exactly what happened, why did she feel the need to attend this banquet? And why did she make that call so suddenly? Macy never did anything without thinking it through at least twenty times.
“Shit, what did I just get myself into? I’m going to call and cancel right now! I’ll say that I didn’t realize I had plans that day or something believable like that!” Macy frantically decided.
“Ding dong!” the doorbell rang just as she was dialing the phone. She tossed it on the couch and collected herself before she answered the door. She peaked through the little peep hole, it was Alli.
